Trinity Orchestra is proud to present its annual Hilary Term Concert, March 19th at 8pm in Christ Church Cathedral. .
With returning conductor Cillian O’Breacháin picking up the baton, and featuring acclaimed soloist Carla White, this is set to be one of the orchestra’s finest performances to date. Performing excerpts from Prokofiev’s Romeo & Juliet Suite no.2, Dvořák’s vibrant 8th Symphony in G major and the tour de force that is the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D major..
Trinity Orchestra, the symphony orchestra of Trinity College Dublin, is Ireland’s only fully student run orchestra. Founded in 1989, the orchestra is first and foremost a classical ensemble that brings together students and staff from every discipline in the college.
Every year the ensemble performs two major classical concerts in Christchurch Cathedral, Dublin. The orchestra tours also tours annually, showcasing its work to international audiences around Europe, at locations including Berlin, London and Budapest. Chamber music is an integral part of the society; regular chamber music concerts throughout the year give members opportunities to perform in smaller ensembles away from the main body of the orchestra.
More recently the orchestra has featured in the media for its covers of various popular artists such as Daft Punk, Arcade Fire, Pink Floyd, Sigur Ros and Queen. Gaining much attention on both a national and international level, Trinity Orchestra has become a popular favourite on the festival scene, taking to the Main Stage at Forbidden Fruit and Electric Picnic.
Trinity Orchestra strives to be a platform for talented young musicians and composers to showcase their work, and is always open to submissions from students. Continually pushing the boundaries of the traditional orchestra, Trinity Orchestra has established itself as much loved and cherished college institution.
